The Power of Co-Active Coaching: Understanding the CPCC Journey
In a world increasingly focused on performance and efficiency, Co-Active Coaching offers something profoundly different: a human-centered approach to growth that integrates being and doing. At its core, Co-Active Coaching recognizes that people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole — not problems to be fixed, but individuals full of potential waiting to be realized.
This philosophy is embodied in one of the most respected credentials in the coaching world: the CPCC, or Certified Professional Co-Active Coach.
What Is Co-Active Coaching?
Co-Active Coaching is a framework developed by the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI) — formerly known as the Coaches Training Institute — which has trained over 65,000 coaches worldwide. “Co-Active” means “being in action together.”
It’s a balance of two essential forces:
Co → Being, connection, intuition, empathy, and awareness
Active → Doing, achievement, accountability, and results
Instead of treating coaching as advice-giving or mentoring, the Co-Active model treats the client as the expert in their own life. The coach’s job is not to direct, but to evoke — to draw out the client’s own wisdom and clarity through powerful questions, presence, and structure.
The Core Principles of Co-Active Coaching
The model rests on five key cornerstones that shape how a coach interacts with clients:
People are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. Clients aren’t broken — they already have what they need to thrive.
Coaching addresses the whole person. It’s not just about work performance or goals — emotions, values, and relationships all matter.
The agenda comes from the client. Coaches create space for clients to define what truly matters to them.
Co-Active relationships are a dance. Coach and client co-create the process, sharing responsibility and ownership.
Evoking transformation. The ultimate goal is sustainable change — growth that ripples through all areas of life.
What Does CPCC Stand For?
CPCC means Certified Professional Co-Active Coach. It’s the globally recognized certification offered by the Co-Active Training Institute. Earning this credential means that a coach has not only completed the five-part Co-Active Coach Training Program, but also passed through a rigorous certification process that tests both skill and presence.
