Role Overview
As our VP of Human Resources, you will be the strategic leader responsible for building and scaling the people operations that power Dancing Dragons. You will ensure we attract, develop, and retain exceptional talent while fostering a culture of growth, inclusion, and excellence. This fractional role requires a part-time commitment (initially 10-20 hours per week) and offers the opportunity to establish the foundational HR framework for a fast-growing, impact-driven startup. You'll work closely with the CEO, CHRO, and leadership team to translate people strategy into actionable programs and ensure our HR systems support growth and employee satisfaction. This position is ideal for an experienced HR leader who thrives on building people functions from the ground up, creating scalable talent processes, and developing exceptional employee experiences, seeking an equity-based role in an early-stage venture.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
- Design and execute comprehensive talent acquisition strategies across all functions
- Build and optimize recruitment processes, from sourcing to onboarding
- Develop employer branding initiatives that attract top talent to our mission
- Establish relationships with recruitment partners, agencies, and talent networks
- Create scalable hiring processes that can grow with the company
- Implement diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the hiring funnel
Employee Experience & Culture
- Design and implement programs that enhance employee engagement and satisfaction
- Develop onboarding experiences that set new hires up for long-term success
- Create feedback mechanisms and employee listening strategies
- Build initiatives that strengthen company culture and team cohesion
- Oversee employee communications and ensure transparent information sharing
- Develop recognition and rewards programs that celebrate achievements
Performance Management & Development
- Design and implement performance management systems and processes
- Create employee development programs and career pathing frameworks
- Establish goal-setting and review processes that drive accountability
- Develop learning and development initiatives that support growth
- Build mentorship and coaching programs for employees
- Create succession planning frameworks for key roles
HR Operations & Systems
- Evaluate, select, and implement HRIS systems and HR technology platforms
- Establish HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Manage employee records and HR data with accuracy and confidentiality
- Develop and maintain HR metrics and analytics to inform decision-making
- Create scalable HR processes that can grow with the company
Compensation & Benefits
- Develop competitive compensation structures and salary bands
- Design benefits packages that attract and retain top talent
- Benchmark compensation against market rates and industry standards
- Advise on equity compensation plans and implementation
- Create total rewards strategies that communicate value to employees
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Oversee employee relations, including conflict resolution and workplace issues
- Ensure compliance with employment laws at federal, state, and local levels
- Manage employment contracts, offer letters, and separation agreements
- Develop and implement workplace safety and security policies
- Manage relationships with employment attorneys and legal advisors
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; SHRM or HRCI certification preferred
- 7+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years in HR leadership roles
- Proven track record of building and scaling HR functions in growing companies
- Strong background in talent acquisition, employee relations, and HR operations
- Experience with HRIS systems and HR technology platforms
- Knowledge of employment law, compliance, and best practices
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Comfort with a part-time, strategic role with flexible time commitment
Preferred
- Experience in tech platforms, marketplaces, or subscription business models
- Background in the coaching, wellness, or ed-tech industries
- Experience scaling HR operations in an early-stage startup
- Familiarity with remote teams and distributed workforces
- Experience building HR functions from the ground up
- Knowledge of equity compensation structures and startup financing
