Role Overview

As our Chief of Business Development, you will be the driving force behind our strategic partnerships and B2B growth initiatives. This senior leadership role requires 15-20 hours per week and offers significant equity potential as you build the business development foundation for our innovative coaching platform. You'll lead our VP of Business Development team, manage RFP processes, develop government and private sector partnerships, and establish long-term B2B contracts that will scale our platform's reach and impact.

This position is ideal for an experienced business development executive with a proven track record in strategic partnerships, RFP management, and B2B contract development who wants to shape the growth trajectory of a mission-driven startup in the personal development space.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership Development

  • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships with corporations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and government agencies
  • Develop and execute partnership strategies that align with our mission of democratizing access to life coaching
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers in target organizations and industries
  • Create partnership proposals and presentations that showcase our platform's value proposition
  • Negotiate partnership terms and agreements that benefit both parties while advancing our mission
  • Establish metrics and KPIs to measure partnership success and ROI

RFP Management & Bid Development

  • Lead the identification and evaluation of relevant RFPs from government agencies, corporations, and other organizations
  • Direct VP of Business Development team in developing comprehensive, competitive proposals that highlight our unique value proposition
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure proposal accuracy, completeness, and alignment with client requirements
  • Develop standardized proposal templates and processes to improve efficiency and consistency
  • Manage proposal timelines, deadlines, and submission processes
  • Track proposal success rates and continuously improve our bidding strategies

Government & Private Sector Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies at federal, state, and local levels
  • Identify opportunities for government contracts related to employee wellness, mental health support, and personal development programs
  • Navigate government procurement processes and compliance requirements
  • Build relationships with private sector companies seeking employee wellness and development solutions
  • Develop tailored solutions for different industry verticals and organizational needs
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes affecting our target markets

B2B Contract Development & Management

  • Lead the development of long-term B2B contracts and master service agreements
  • Work with legal team to ensure contracts protect our interests while meeting client requirements
  • Establish pricing models and contract structures that are scalable and profitable
  • Manage contract renewals, modifications, and expansions
  • Develop client success programs to ensure high satisfaction and retention rates
  • Create systems for tracking contract performance and identifying growth opportunities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor VP of Business Development team members
  • Establish clear goals, expectations, and performance metrics for the business development team
  • Provide strategic guidance and support for complex partnership negotiations
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and results-driven performance
  • Develop training programs and resources to enhance team capabilities
  • Recruit and onboard additional business development talent as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of business development experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
  • Proven track record of developing and managing strategic partnerships and B2B relationships
  • Extensive experience with RFP management, proposal development, and government contracting
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience with complex contract development
  • Experience leading and managing business development teams
  • Knowledge of healthcare, wellness, or personal development industry landscape
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Comfort with a flexible, results-oriented role with significant equity upside

Preferred

  • Experience in the coaching, wellness, healthcare, or personal development industries
  • Background with digital platforms, SaaS, or marketplace business models
  • Government contracting experience and knowledge of procurement processes
  • Experience with corporate wellness programs and employee development initiatives
  • Previous startup experience or experience scaling business development functions
  • Network of contacts in target industries and government agencies
  • Experience with CRM systems and business development analytics
