Preparing something amazing for you!
As the President and Founder of Pivot at Work, established in 2002, Larry collaborates with individuals and organizations to enhance their effectiveness. His methods include individual and group coaching, experiential learning, outcome-focused cohorts, and facilitated processes. Recently, he has concentrated on creating content with experts in various disciplines, concentrated on linking leadership success with Emotional Health. Larry was selected to coach and provide design advisory for leadership content, debrief 360 feedback and coach colonels as part of the Air Force Strategic Command. Some of his clients are Surest, Best Buy, Boston Scientific, Carlson Companies, CHS, Carlson School of Management, and Williams Energy. Beyond his work with Pivot at Work, Larry has held roles at companies such as UnitedHealth Group, CVS/MinuteClinic, Adaytum, and Carlson School of Management. In 2012, he published his leadership book, A.R.T.ful Leadership the Path to be Admired, Respected, and Trusted as a Leader. For two years, Larry produced a podcast that explored the impact of trauma caused by poor or abusive leadership within organizations. Through interviews, participants shared how these experiences affected their professional, financial, and personal lives, as well as their journey to recovery. Later, he shifted focus to examine how leaders and organizations responded to the Pandemic. Larry’s work is shaped by what a colleague described as “whole-person leadership.” He recognizes that people are complex and multi-dimensional, often noting that our communication patterns are formed by age three, affecting how we handle conflict, feedback, and forming relationships. Whether working with individuals or groups, Larry encourages exploration of family dynamics, self-awareness, and self-confidence, emphasizing how these factors influence each other. This holistic understanding helps uncover strengths, barriers, and challenges. During graduate school, Larry intentionally studied subjects including Marriage and Family Dynamics, Dyadic Communication, Management, Diffusion of Innovation, Group Dynamics, Organizational Communications, Interpersonal and Nonverbal Communication, Economics, Marketing, and Public Relations. He had to advocate for this multidisciplinary approach and has always applied varied perspectives to issues related to leadership, teams, and organizational culture, collaborating across disciplines to solve problems. Larry values curiosity and lifelong learning. He resides in the Minneapolis area with his wife Nancy. Their two children, Alex and Kathryn, also live nearby.
My method focuses on helping leaders build the skills and confidence that inspire others to follow them. Recognizing our complexity as individuals, I examine factors such as upbringing, habits, challenges, and achievements. Often, this involves addressing past trauma and triggers that can affect relationships, impact the ability to manage conflict effectively, and hinder developing self-confidence. As a contextual coach, I draw from multiple fields including behavioral science, psychology, communication, family dynamics, and neuroscience. My main area of expertise is strengthening the connection between leadership success and emotional health. By fostering this link, people develop self-discipline and resilience, which are vital for overcoming difficult situations and achieving lasting change at work, at home, and beyond.
